Founded in 1880 by Lewis C. Norton, Norton Door Closer Company began manufacturing and
marketing the first practical commercial door closers. Though cumbersome, his first door closers
were effective devices which permitted the adjustment of the door's sweep speed.

back (20-1624-4001). Norton Door Closer used to be owned by Scoville and Eaton, so
they may be marked with these names also.

Norton 8501 Door Closer, also known as the Norton 8501 Omni Door Closer, or 8501BF Door Closer.
We sometimes find 3301/3501 and 8301/8501 on the inside of the cover, along with the suffix BF (barrier free).- Adjustable spring sizes 1 thru 6

- 5/8" (16mm) diameter pinion journals
