Whether you are installing new treads or replacing worn material, choosing the right adhesive for stair treads makes all the difference. Stair treads will benefit from moisture resistance, durability, and temperature change resistance. Choose the right adhesive for your application:

  • For rubber and vinyl stair treads, use high-tack, flexible adhesives for a secure hold.
  • For landing tiles and mats, apply durable pressure-sensitive or wet-set options.
  • Grit strips adhesive is a fast-grab adhesive that will help prevent edge lift.
  • Mounting tape is great for quick installation.

We offer tile adhesives for stair treads, such as the 320 Carpet Tile Adhesive and the Fluff-Cord Tile Adhesive. We also offer the GSA3 Grit Strip Adhesive which is recommended as a sealer and for use where grit strip is applied to wood, concrete, and other porous surfaces. It is available in quarts or pints. A single coat of one quart covers approximately 50 square feet of grit strip.

Stair Tread Mounting Installation Tape is another solid option. It comes in 4 inch wide rolls of 164 feet. With no drying time or cleanup, mounting tape is a super convenient choice. We recommend applying two strips of tape per tread. One strip would be applied on the nose and the other on the back.

Before you apply any adhesive for stair treads, make sure the surface is dry, dust-free, and free of oils or old residue. If you are working on painted or sealed surfaces, we can recommend the best way to scuff-sand and prime for better grip. We will also advise on temperature and humidity ranges so your adhesive cures properly and your treads stay secure.
