The Von Duprin 55EO Exit Device is used primarily on aluminum framed glass doors, otherwise known as Narrow Stile Doors.   It is one of the most heavy duty cross bar devices made, and has been in production since at least the 1970's.

When active door is open, coordinator prevents active door from closing until inactive door bypasses. Closing of inactive door causes strike plate on top of door to contact cam and lift arm, allowing active door to close. Norton New Style Replacement Door Closer Springs

This is the replacement door closer spring for the Norton 78, and Yale 1900 Door Closers. Spring measures 2-11/16" diameter by 2" tall. This spring is identifiable by the number stamped on the band that holds the spring together. The band will be stamped either B/D 2/4, or E/F 5/6.
